There’s a lot more to talk about but today the topic is about How To Build Leadership Skills Outside Your Day Jobs.

Welcome Janet to Scribble Talk.

.33: Baskar Sundaram – Janet, why is this topic important?

.21: Baskar Sundaram – When did you became…Was it 2018 when you started APMP?

.15: Baskar Sundaram – How was it? Becoming a member is one. Becoming a member and the, there are tons of resources available both within the general APMP or what we call the International APMP, plus also there is the chapter where lot more resources are available. From being a member, what triggered you to join the board or to volunteer for the local chapter?

.36: Baskar Sundaram – I can imagine. I think, we all are breaking our comfort zone. It’s much easy to sit and do a proposal like the question is given and you find a response whatever. But coming out meeting people, but also building confidence not just within yourself but also building confidence with the wider members takes a lot of courage, Janet. And this episode is a dedication to you and a lot more people like you. Pretty much all Scribble Talk is around the ethos and Sacrifice. So, again, from becoming a member, you become the Programs Chair, and from Jamie Ninneman, amazing, another person. And then you moved on to become a Chapter Chair for example. So, people will be thinking, Oh, I already have a busy career then, I have my family and I have other things to do. So, approximately Janet, how much time this sort of volunteering takes you? In, maybe a quarter or an yearly basis?

.49: Baskar Sundaram – So, having joined the Chapter and becoming a member, and also becoming a Chair, how do you find yourself, what’s the right word…how did you help to build your own confidence, Janet? You know, like before 2018 to currently 2022, any differences that you see in yourself?

.21 Baskar Sundaram – But APMP Liberty Chapter is a one part of what you can do to build leadership skills outside your day job. Talk us through what are the other things that you do?

.15: Baskar Sundaram –  I think, number one is, the proposal industry where you belong to, you have build a community there, part of the chair of the local chapter. And, within your company, you also went on to Chair as well. That takes a lot of courage, I mean, going for the day job, come back and do what it takes is one, but within the company also representing them, employee. and talking to the wider talent and stuff. How was it? I’m sure there are some hierarchy within the company where you might have met. some people you have never met. There are senior leaders of the company. How was those interactions? And, how was your experience doing that? Also, you might have your own employee related positives and some improvement areas. I mean, look at the wider company that was a global level, there might be some high level insights that you got. Not just in the United States, but also wider. Talk us through this over-all experience at ERG, how long you were there and what’s something powerful or funny, interesting.

.01: Baskar Sundaram – Building this sort of skills outside. Taking you as an example, you already mentioned, it gave you the opportunity to interact with your own company’s leaders. Also, outside members of APMP. You know, that leadership we keep talking about, can you kind of mention some of the leadership skills you got because of this experience?

.40: Baskar Sundaram – Talk us through, on one end you are going beyond and building this leadership skills outside your work. But how did you help or made yourself accountable for these rules for these roles? How did you help yourself going for this?

.52: Baskar Sundaram – So, within all these things, Janet, has it made you more happy than how you were before doing all these roles?

.47: Baskar Sundaram – Before we close the episode, Janet, final three pointers on why people need to build leadership skills outside their job.

.21: Baskar Sundaram – Janet thank you so much for joining Scribble Talk Teaching. It’s an absolute privilege always to host you. Wish you, your family, everybody around you all the good health and happiness. Continue to volunteer more, continue to inspire us, continue to be the beacon of hope that we always see you. Thank you so much, Janet.
