A comprehensive guide to effective online marketing

No one needs to tell you that digital marketing is the future. As the internet becomes an indispensable part of our lives, we must also integrate it into our marketing strategies. Yes, we have heard about digital marketing. But where do you start? Or if you have started, how do you then elevate your marketing strategy?

Do not fret. We have you covered. Before you jump into this new playing field you need to know the basics from SEO to social media to personalized content. We will be covering the foundation you need to get started on your digital marketing journey.

Importance of Social Media

Be where your customers are and where exactly are your customers? On the internet, probably scrolling through social media. Almost everyone is on the internet using one platform or the other. Create a social media presence on at least one of the major platforms.

But remember that traditional marketing techniques do not work here. Old marketing techniques were one-sided with the salesperson trying to convince the buyer but the advantage of social media is that you can now have a conversation with your potential customers.

Social media allows us to build a relationship with our customers on a more personal level. It is a two-way street. Businesses can influence customers but customers can also easily influence business decisions. Customers can provide valuable input in form of comments, reviews and more.

This is also an opportunity to build a social media personality that is on brand and compliments the image you are trying to build.

SEO and Keywords

If are aware of digital marketing then you must have heard the words Seach Engine Optimisation being thrown around a lot. SEO basically ensures that you are visible. You want to be visible to increase traffic and to be visible you must be seen on top. SEO makes it easier for customers to find you on Google. It is a way to book your spot on the top search results.

The main focus of SEO is finding the right keywords. Consider your keywords carefully. What should search for to find you? What are the words that align with your company? Generic words relating to your products are good but narrow it down further.

Start by thinking about your target audience. Are they low on cash like students? Then the words “sale” or “offer” will attract your customers. Think of other unique features that your business offers. Add these aspects into your keywords as well.

Further Optimisation

Using keywords is only the first step towards making your content search engine optimised. Nowadays Google uses a more complex algorithm to determine where your site should be displayed. There are some factors to be considered like the flow of your site. Your site should be easy to navigate and user friendly. It should have a main website that consists of further links that lead to more detailed content. Your URL should also contain words from the site and even the keywords used in the content.

Do not duplicate content as Google rewards original and unique content. The more your site is linked, shared and linked on, the more it will be shown on the top pages. Ensure that your websites are mobile-friendly. In this day and age with everyone browsing on the phone, mobile-friendly pages and content are promoted more.

Paid Search

There is something more you can do to get people to your site and that is paid search ads. Using Google Ads is a great way to gain traffic and it is relatively easy to use. You can set the budget for your campaign ahead of time, choose the area you want your ads to be seen and the message to be displayed. Google can also tell you how many people will view your ad based on the period your campaign is run.

Having a well-made website with the right keywords and details will help convert the views to clicks. If you have the money and time, looking into paid advertising will help in other ways too. Based on the data you gather, cost per click and click to sales you can determine what works best for you.

Content Marketing

Creating engaging and relevant content for your customers is another strategy in digital marketing. Content can be anything from videos to blogs. Any content that provides information and entertains people is the way to get started. You can read more about content marketing here.
