Usually, procrastination is seen as a bad habit. But waiting is the right time is a skill we must all development. Just like how a predator waits patiently for its prey, there is a right time for action. Waiting for opportunities will only lead to success. In this article, we will be discussing the importance of waiting and slowing down.

Decision Making

Studies have shown that experts make decisions quickly and correctly due to their experience in their fields. Novices who are new to the field tend to make the wrong decision especially when it a highly time-constrained situation. Not everyone is an expert at everything so when you find yourself in an unfamiliar area and need to make a decision, you need to wait. Be patient and gather as much information as possible before you make the final call.

Impression and Judgement

We often judge people and jump to conclusions too quickly. We tend to stick with our initial impression of a person. This is why it is important to think and analyse about the first impression and judgement we pass upon others. Our initial ideas are often biased. So take five minutes and think about the person and base each idea on evidence and proof. Do not let personal bias cloud your judgement.

Love and Waiting

Patience in matters of love is highly important. Speed dating and online dating have placed huge importance on first impressions and judging a person by just photos and pictures. When you go on dates, the goal should be to gather enough information about the person to form a solid impression and decide if there should be a second date. But you should not spend too much time on a date as it can get personal and you might feel obligated to say “yes” to a second date. Meeting someone for lunch is a perfect way to gather objective information and decide on matters.

Short-Term Benefits

Humans are generally bad at making decisions based on short-term and long-term benefits. We tend to sway more towards the short-term benefits and immediate happiness. While immediate gratification sounds fantastic on paper, it might lead to more problems in the future. This is where procrastination becomes good. Take some time to evaluate your options and choose the best option which gives the most benefits and least issues.

Waiting patiently and procrastinating can be good in the long run. Procrastination does not in fact mean inactivity. You must continue working but wait to gather enough information before making major decisions.
